In the mist

An adolescent bison, caught mid-play in shallow water, mist rising around him as a storm-red sky presses down from above. He hasn't learned stillness yet, or wariness — just the water, the morning, and whatever game he's making of both.
Painted directly, without a witnessed story attached — just the animal, the terrain, and the atmosphere of a landscape that rarely offers anything gentle. No academic composition here, no lead-in for the eye to follow comfortably. In the Badlands, nothing arrives that way, and this doesn't either. He simply appears — solid, present, unbothered by the weight of the sky above him.
