Everything below the horizon is a life lived at full heat. Deep red for rage, pink and orange for passion and celebration, a band of gold for everything we spend our years building and owning. It takes up most of the canvas, because it takes up most of the time we have.

Then the heat cools. At the horizon a band of purple, the one color that belongs to both worlds, sits behind a single dark figure, still and hard-edged while everything around it blends. This is the crossing. Nothing is gripped here and nothing is carried.

Above it is only blue, cool and endless, its strokes fanning up past the edge of the canvas as if the frame were too small to hold it. It is not an ending. It is detachment, no longer practiced but permanent, a release into a world that may be far vaster than the one left behind.

This painting hangs where I have my morning coffee, and it still has something to say to me every day. I am in no hurry to part with it. It will go to someone who finds that it speaks to them too.

One original. Limited fine art prints available.
